Big Adventures Ahead! Making Moves and Putting Together the Beach Volleyball Puzzle
So here’s the inside scoop,
It’s January 2023 and I am currently on the edge of a great big adventure. In the last six months, I have been in an almost constant “dream mode” and I have used it to get clear on what I really want in life!
Symptoms of “dream mode” include:
Allowing the mind to freely wander through the future
Frequent restlessness followed by occassional peace
Realization of goals combined with an increase in self-belief
Self-compassion for not having entered this mental state sooner
Growing urges to invest in a plan and hunt goals with intention
Truth be told, after not playing the full 2022 AVP season, and instead doubling down on growing Weaver Volley Mechanics to gain traction as an entrepreneur, my beloved dream mode brought me back to my core desire to pursue the highest levels of professional volleyball. I care so deeply about the athletes and clients that I coach, it became tempting at times to put a pause on my own development to help them fulfill their goals full time. As I invested more more time into my young female athletes however, seeing volleyball through their perspective truly helped me reconnect to the teenage girl I once was… So naturally bold and outspoken about my goals and willing to go to any lengths to make them a reality. I was always so certain that I could accomplish anything, but somewhere along the line I allowed the doubts of others and advice to “tone it down” to dull my sense of adventure and ability to speak openly about my lofty expectations.
Where did that bring me?
After almost 20 years of volleyball I feel reenergized in a way that I have not felt since I was in middle school, when discovering my love for volleyball and the health modalities that would help me play for as many hours as possible. After months of deliberation and dissecting the details of where I am at in my athletic progression, it became clear that I have been missing a dedicated support system here in the South Bay to help me climb the ladder in the professional realm. So, it’s time for some changes!
Drumroll please….
While I was dreaming and trying to find my next step, other pieces were falling into place. By the end of 2022, I accepted an offer to receive fully sponsored coaching in Florida and will be moving there next month to prepare for the 2023 AVP season and many seasons after that! The best part? I will be recombining forces with my long time coach and friend, Andrew Vazquez. After years of prioritizing the coaching of youth athletes and volleyball hobbyists alike, I am stoked at the opportunity to receive the same kind of coaching that I believe is critical for anyone pursuing their athletic goals. Focused court time, a personalized physical regimen, and consistent technical instruction are a couple of the pieces that I am looking forward to most! These are the core principles of Weaver Volley Mechanics, and I cannot wait to receive these same principles in my own training and preparation for future professional seasons.
I’ve been dreaming about playing more volleyball and truly better volleyball for a long time now, and it feels great to be putting together the puzzle that is professional beach volleyball.
But First, International Travels Await!
Stay tuned as I head abroad in upcoming months! Brazil is at the top of the list as I head there for a training camp in the middle of their summer, and then follow it up with a couple of weeks exploring Europe before I head back to Florida for full preseason training and searching for my 2023 beach partner!
